my screen res is stuck at 640 x 800 and wont change
yes its true and the slider doiesnt work when i try and get it back to a
higher res any help ?

The driver for your graphics card probably isn't installed. First run
Windows Update (run "custom" rather than "express") and see if the driver
shows up. If it does, download and install it. If that doesn't work, then
if you have a CD that came with your graphics card, try installing it from
the CD. If that doesn't work, try going to the graphics card manufacturer's
website.

Is it an old monitor?
An old PC?
Because of lack of information in your post, I'll take a guess...
When you try to increase the res, you then have to Click
the "Apply" button followed by the "OK" button. Try that!

In some cases, a too-high refresh rate will limit resolution. Try reducing the
refresh rate.

Do not use device driver updates from MS Updates, they are often
problematic or don't even work at all and if they do they tend to be
outdated and not include all the features of the manufacturer's drivers.
