My Ratings and Album Art

M

MoDementia

I'm having a great time putting all my music on my
computer.
I purchased plus digital pack and have converted nearly
all my old tapes and LPs (3500 songs and counting)

I have backed them up onto data CDs

I have almost finished rating them, and scanned album art
as I went.

Question 1
I format my PC maybe twice a year (starts playing up,
slows)
How can I extract all My Ratings so that I dont have to
go through the task again if I format? and add backed up
data back on

Question 2
Where is the album art stored, the ones off the net that
show up on the folders thumbnails? In customise choose
picture it is not available.

If I know where they are and how they are linked to a
folder I could possibly link my scanned tape/lp images
the same way. (Very few of my old tapes are listed by amg)

PS
My files are in format
My Music\Artist\Album\Album_track no_title.wma

So adding the scanned picture to all album folders is not
really an option

This should no longer be necessary with Windows XP. It was a MUST with
Win9x!

Dunno, I don't use WMP

All album folder images are called "Folder.jpg", and are hidden by default.
They are located inside the album folder.

If you have scanned images, save them as "Folder.jpg" (no quotes) inside
each album folder. Windows will automatically create the
"AlbumArtSmall.jpg", which is located inside the artist folder. WMP saves
them at 200 x 200, but you can use larger images if you prefer.

Do The Playlists contain all the extra data or is it part
of the .wma file ?

Galley covered #2, for #1 get the Ratings Migration Power Toy from
http://www.wmplugins.com . That'll back up the ratings to the files.
http://www.nwlink.com/~zachd/pss/pss.html#medialibrary
one question down also covers what to back up. :)

See http://www.nwlink.com/~zachd/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.

Yes, Rating Migration Power Toy is the way to go. Also
you may want to consider purchasing an external USB2 hard
drive for backup. I own a few Maxtor 250 gig externals.
Backing all of your files to CD will get cumbersome as
your collection grows. Mine is currently at 38,000 mp3s.
