When I double click on my pictures I get a dialog box that says "Cannot find file:///c:program%20files/hp/digital%20imaging/bin/loading...hp%20image%20zone.htm' When I click the OK button in the dialog box Internet Explorer starts up. Can anyone please tell me how to get "My Pictures" to open like an ordinary folder instead of trying to start some program

The computer is an HP Pavillion zd7000 running XP home edition. This question should probably be answered by HP but their tech support is just a bit worse than totally useless.

Ok, if this is a serious question: 1) you need to learn about the file
system you are using. 2) you need to learn to use the tools available to
navigate that file system.

A folder is a subdirectory. It's called a subdirectory because it is
subordinate to another directory. Your My Pictures folder is a subdirectory
under C:\Documents and Settings\whatever_account_you_are_using. You can use
the My Computer icon or the Windows Explorer application to browse your
hard drive to learn what's on there. You'll probably have to go in and turn
off all those annoying things that hide files in windows, but that's part
of the learning process. Keeping people ignorant is not the safest approach
to computing. You'd think M$ would have figured that out by now.

Thanks for replying. This is serious. Whether I navigate to My Pictures from My Documents or get to it from C:\Documents and Settings\Bill\... or just directly click on it from the start menu, the symptoms are the same. I get the error message given in my previous post

It seems that HP has configured the computer not to open a directory when the My Pictures Icon is clicked but rather to run its imaging software. Right after getting the computer home, the first time I clicked on My Pictures, HP Image Zone software ran its setup routine. Then for a brief time clicking My Pictures would cause Image Zone to open and display the contents of My Pictures. Finally, the imaging program stopped working properly thus leading to the error messages

As a workaround I made a copy of My Pictures. That directory works just fine. Double clicking on it opens an Explorer window that shows the contents. But I want the original My Pictures directory to work like an ordinary directory. I've consulted several books and browsed the Microsoft website, but I have found nothing about configuring XP to do something other than open an Explorer window when My Pictures or any other directory icon is clicked. Does anyone know about this problem? Any help or hints of things to try would be greatly appreciated.

Perhaps I should also add that if I right click the My Pictures program icon and select either 'open' or 'explore' from the menu the same symptoms also occur, namely an error message in a modal dialog box followed by Internet Explorer starting after I click OK in the dialog box.

I was searching the Web for a' fix' when I came across your posting. I have an almost identical problem...When I click Image Zone, I get the same message/box, if I click OK, or click the 'x'(off) symbol, a Lycos web page opens! I carried out a System Restore to prior to downloading XP Serv/Pack2. Then Image Zone works ok, so it appears there's something about S/P2 it doesn't like. Any help, gratefuly recieved. However, in laymans terms please.

Ramesh,

Sorry, finding it a bit confusing trying to navigate this site...Hopes this works.
If you refer to a previous posting...Re: Juan, 05/05/04, @4.25am. This is an almost identical problem to what I am experiencing.. I'm running HP Pavillion T530. Hope this helps.

I'm unable to track the post that you stated as it's 1 year old. Can you
post the problem description fully?

This is the post I think:

When I double click on my pictures I get a dialog box that says "Cannot find file:///crogram%20files/hp/digital%20imaging/bin/loading...hp%20image%20zone.htm' When I click the OK button in the dialog box Internet Explorer starts up. Can anyone please tell me how to get "My Pictures" to open like an ordinary folder instead of trying to start some program

Ian, yes that's correct, thankyou. I didn't realise it was a year old! To re-cap. I'm running an HP t530 Pavillion, with XP Home Ed. Part of the pre-installed software is HP Digital Imaging...Scan docs etc works ok. But, when I try to access Image Zone (Photo's, Projects, etc) I get a audible warning and a box appear, Titled: M/Soft Internet Explorer. stating "Cannot find file:///program%20files/hp/digital%20imaging/bin/loading...hp%20image%20zone.htm'....Check that the path or internet address is correct. When I click the OK button in the box, or click to turn it off a Web Page for Lycos appears (address: Http://gb10.hpwiscom/). I've found by trail and error if I de-install or do a restore, prior to Service Pack 2 being installed, it works Ok. Slowly and somewhat erractically but, at least it works. Although I'm a complete novice, would I be right in assuming for some reason the correct web address is being corrupted in some way?

Thanks, Deniz
