My login page always shows "one unread mail ", why?

my windowsXP sp2 login page (the blue page for insert password to login)
always shows that I have a unread mail, but I'm sure there's no unread
message in my microsoft outlook
I also used the function"search mail box"to make sure I do not have a unread
mail
so ....what happend?

can somebody help me

Well, they're wrong, as anyone who uses outlook 2003 knows... did you
submit feedback telling them it's incorrect?

Thanks ! Maybe that's the problem- that I have mails unreaded in hotmail box,
but the error message disappeared at the day before yesterday for unknown
reason. Saying "unknow reason" because that day still in the range of 3 days
as you mentioned, and I just read mails now.
so did the unread mails in my hotmail caused the problem? I not sure, but I
feel unlikely....

Hi, Diane,
I, too, am interested in getting rid of that 'new email' alert and I read
what you suggested about editing or downloading the registry, but I'm not
sure where I go in Outlook/my computer to do this. Would you mind explaining
what I need to do (I am not very computer literate).

Start-> Run-> type; regedit-> OK
