My labtop refuses to hibernate any more.

I used to be able to hibernate my laptop [Windows XP pro,
Compaq Evo N1020v, 2.4 ghz, 15 GB of free space in hard
drive, 736 mb RAM] with no problems.
Recently, Everytime I hibernate, the computer says:
preparing to hibernate then goes into the XP screen
with "indicator horizontal bar". The indicator moves very
slowly until it's only one third the length of the bar,
when the computer power down.
When I power up the computer, it boots up normally with
restoring the status before hibernation...
I didn't have any hardware or major software changes
lately.
Is there a way to fix this or I have to reinstall Windows?
Thanks
Mo
