My internet connection status will not show on the network connections window

Since changing from a D-Link DSL 604+ 11b wireless router modem to a Belkin
11g, my internet connection status will not show on the network connections
window. However if I turn off windows firewall the internet connection
status will appear on the network connections window. I have also tried
turning off the Belkin firewall but that makes no difference. I did have
various other issues after the change to Belkin but I have sorted them out
e.g. the home network would not work. I also still cannot ping computer to
computer but can exchange files. The pinging to the router is okay.

I know this is not the end of the world but knowing why this happened would,
I hope, give me a better incite into the whole bizarre world of networking.
Can anyone help please?

The pinging between workstations is a product of the software firewall on the
pc's. If a hacker cant find you they cant hurt you (or so they would think)

When switching to a new wireless router that has an integrated firewall
always go most restrictive and open it up as needed. If you are using the
wireless router as a DHCP server be sure to record all of the configuration
information. When replacing a DHCP server it is best to set your DHCP leases
to expire near to the time that you will be switching out the server. This
will help avoid issues with lease renewals. That is probably what you were
experiencing.

Hope this helps.
