My ie.exe or iexplorer.exe file is GONE. I can't finmd anything on my
computer anywhere having to do with IE.
I mostly use Firefox, but I need to use IE for things. I can get IE to
start using a context menu in FF, but I need to make a desktop icon to get IE
to go to a particular web site, and I can't find ANY IE .exe files to link
the shortcut to.

????????
I am confused.

The executable for IE is not ie.exe nor iexplorer.exe but iexplore.exe
and is normally C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE

Hi,
If IE will open (even via Fx) then iexplore.exe must be on your computer.

To get the desktop icon back, try this:
WindowsXP... Control Panel> Display> Desktop> Customize> Desktop Icons> put
a check by
Internet Explorer.
Windows 98, Millennium... Control Panel> Internet Options> Advanced>
Browsing> Show Internet Explorer on the desktop.

Hope this helps,
Don

Yeah, it was not in that folder. That was the first place I looked for it.
I did a search on that file name and I have 2 copies:
\windows\servicepackfiles\i386 folder and
\windows\$ntservicepackuninstall$ folder.

Strange. Well the other guys checkbox worked.
THANX!!

Hi,
Glad that worked for you. It's real curious that iexplore.exe isn't in one
of the usual places. ;-o

If you are happy with the desktop icon, then it is probably academic
which one is being used but if you are curious, have a look in the
Registry and see where it is referenced.
(Start-Run-Regedit)
I would start here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App
Paths\IEXPLORE.EXE
