IE icon changed

Hi.

A few days ago I was trying to uninstall a program from my desktop page
using "Your Uninstaller! 2006". For some reason it also uninstalled parts of
IE6 so that the icon/shortcut for IE6 has now changed to a picture of an open
box infront of a web page and when I double click it, nothing happens. I
think the files that were removed were ieexcep.cat and ieexcep.inf, though I
am not 100% sure.

Can anyone tell me how I can download the missing files so I can have a
normal working icon? I have gone to the Windows update page (via Mozilla
Firefox) but I get told that I have to be using IE, which I can't do. I
still have the IE folder in Program files. Is there anything in there that I
can use to replace the missing files? Or do I have to reinstall IE6
completely?

Yours (feeling worried)

Does the internet Explorer if you click Start >> All programs >> Internet
Explorer?.
If yes then try to right click this Icon/Shortcut and do the following:

On the IE properties click on Shortcut Tab and see these settings:

Target : ["C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplorer.exe" ]

Start In:[ %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH% ]
Shortcut Key: [ None
]
Run : [ Normal window
][v]

Click [ Change Icon.. ] Button and change it to the Explorer (e) icon.

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm

Open Windows Explorer.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol (NOT URL:Internet Shortcut)
and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.

"Application used to perform this action" should read:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome
(Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the
double quotes.)

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)

#4
WWW_OpenURL

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.

Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE.

If that doesn't fix it, go to Start | Run and type

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

Windows version?

What program were you trying to uninstall and why didn't you use Add/Remove
Programs to uninstall it?
