My html/htm icons in windows XP explorer are gone !

S

SyMt[;\)]-X

Hi,

I have a small problem when I look into my windows explorer at
a html or htm file I don't see the usual icon with the blank screen and
a blue E of internet explorer.

I tried to fix it by deleting iconcache.db or running TweakUI by using
the rebuilt icons utility without succes.
There must be something wrong in the file associating but when I
double click on a html-file internet explorer starts up so that seems
normal.

Please help !

Hi Symtex,

Open Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) and navigate to the following location:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htmlfile]

Backup the key by exporting it as a REG file. After backing up the key, delete the htmlfile key from the registry.

Open Internet Explorer and click the Tools menu. Choose Internet Options and select the Programs tab.

Click Reset Web Settings button and complete the process.

The HTM icons are now reset to defaults.

That works damn fine !!!!
Do you know what may have caused the "problem"
Thanks a lot man but what does MVP stands for ???
Are you working for microsoft ???
Can I now delete that exported reg file ??

Also thanks for the quick response I googled the whole
web but did not find a thing to solve it because I didn't use
the correct words to look for it.
I allmost gave up searching for it because I just had a re-install
because of a new harddisk and I was not in the mood to do it
again for such a small but annoying thing.
It's the first time I use this newsgroup and I believe it seems to be a
good one.
Keep it going !

Yes, you may delete that file. Post the contents of the REG file just to
know the cause. Most probably a IconHander caused this.

Hi Symtex,

Open Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) and navigate to the following location:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htmlfile]

Backup the key by exporting it as a REG file. After backing up the key,
delete the htmlfile key from the registry.

Open Internet Explorer and click the Tools menu. Choose Internet Options and
select the Programs tab.

Click Reset Web Settings button and complete the process.

The HTM icons are now reset to defaults.
