My email does not automatically receive messages

I have to hit send/receive everytime to see if I have an email. I would like
to have automatic receipt and a prompt to let me know I have received an
email.
 
Set your "Check for new mail" to no less than every 10 minutes. If you set it
for 2 or 3 or 5 minutes, the servers cannot reset themselves properly.
