Cancel sending of read receipts

I have a POP account that I'm having trouble with my ISP. I can receive
emails, but I cannot send them out. I have received some emails that the
sender requested a received receipt, which my current settings automatically
process. Now everytime my Outlook goes through a send/receive cycle, it
reports and error of not being able to send these receipts.

How can I delete these receipts? They are not in the outbox.
