My Ebay problem

E

Emimec

Every time I click on my ebay, on the ebay site, I get redirected to all
sorts of sites not relating to eBay. I cannot access "my eBay" at all.

Scanned with the free version of adaware, registry mechanic and AVG, still
got the problem.
Any ideas how to rid the problem?

Yes, its the Ebay site, the UK one.
If I access the US site, all is ok when going to "my Ebay"
Other research seems to show its some sort of virus or worm, but none of my
defence programmes seem to get rid of it

I would contact eBay support and they will be able to refer you to help
as well.

one thing you could consider is the toolbar from ebay- I've never used
it, but they seem to advise it's use.

sorry I couldn't be of more help.

(I would also try an online virus scan by perhaps trendmicro- I've had
it find things my own AV couldn't)

good luck- if you find the solution, please post it as well :)

it sounds like whatever your
clicking on is program to
take your for a ride.

i would delete what ever you
are using to click on, eg toolbar or
shortcut or whatever. If you installed
anything for ebay, you should uninstall
it, eg startups in msconfig, browser
add on, and/or folders
on harddisk.

have you tried msdefender which
is freeware from microsoft.com?

and a program like spybot can
also help.

also, have you tried another browser like
the new super protecting netscape?

It happens on the actual eBay site, not a toolbar or anything, but the
actual "my eBay" button, on ebay.
Online virus scan has found Adware_ BHOT_IMYONBAR so I'm hoping this is the
problem and it will remove it.

Contact EBAY support with your information and for your own safety, check
your purchasing and selling history, plus your ratings.

Also change your passwords ASAP, just in case.

You definitely have a monitor or redirector or some such other malware at
work based on the EBAY link.

Try accessing EBAY via its IP instead of the EBAY url. If you have malware
causing this, that might let you bypass it.
If you don't know how to get the IP for your UK ebay, go to dnsstuff.com
and use their Ping box to get it. Fill in the URL and when it pings,
whether it fails or not, you'll have the IP given at the top of the page.
Just put that where you would normally put the EBAY address in your browser.

I -think- the IP you need is 66.135.208.96 . It should at least take you to
the EBAY site or to a site what will let you click Home to get there.
At this moment, for whatever reason, I'm getting an error that the EBAU
UK site is down and not available. A further check shows it down for
scheduled maintenance. It doesn't say when it'll be back up.

yeh, but you got to
be very careful.

firstly, the u.k. has
been plagued with
virus's and spywares.

and whatever it is that
is re directing you is
not likely to be on the
ebay site, but instead on
your pc.

by redirecting you to
an seemingly official website
or if you have a tabbed browser
and the malware opens a new
tab with the "official" ebay
website; permits them to
phish and capture information
belonging to you and preferrably
your financial data.....

be sure to use "spybot" and
try out the recent netscape browser.

You should also use Spybot Search & Destroy:

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html

Which browser does this occur with?

Have you tried another browser? If not, here's a link to a very basic
one:

Which sites are you being redirected to?

Two suggestions. First try a different browser, second use CCleaner from
http://www.ccleaner.com/ to clean all temporary and downloaded files more
thoroughly than Windows does.

that's great.

sounds like it was a shot in the dark and
you hit the bull's-eye....

how did you know?

the problem may be
more serious, since the
only revelation has only been
that ebay quirk. however,
there may be other issues
yet to be discovered by you.

also, if you have made any restore
points, whatever infection you
have discovered has been replicated
into the restore points. so they are
useless for you now.

keep in mind that antivirals all have
different definitions of existing infections.
that is why some may discovered what
others have not. so you may simply have
to use several of them, one at a time.

one thing that you will have to do
in order to ensure your system files
have not been replaced or corrupted
is running: sfc /scannow

microsoft has something called one care
or something like that, that you can
run online. also msdefender has something
for fighting anything hijacking its ie browser.
an of course, netscape has incorporated
a new security system with its browser.
