I just applied all the latest Windows XP updates from the Microsoft Windows
Update site and I have lost my ability to left or right click on My
Documents. This is an enterprise wide problem, is there something in Group
Ploicy I need to update?
Matthew

Matthew,

See if this command helps:

regsvr32 mydocs.dll

Thank you, but this did not help the situation.

Only XP computers with SP1 on them have this problem, all the SP2 computers
work fine.

Matthew

Matthew,

Are you able to launch My Documents folder by double-clicking its icon in
the Desktop?

NO, Both Left Clicking or Right Clicking have no effect on the icon, nothing
happens.

It will not open. I went into screen settings, removed the icon and added it
back in with no change, it is definitly related to SP1 computers as the SP2
ones work fine, problem is I have 1000 SP1 computers.

The following is the registry key for My Documents shell folder.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103}

Export that key to a REG file, and include the contents in your reply. I'll
to do a value comparison with my system.

The keys/values are correct. ATM I don't have a clue. But shall look into
the Windows Update NG to see if this is a known issue.

Hi Matt,

If you have recently applied MS patch MS06-045 (KB921398),
then, remove it.
This should solve your prob.

Have fun!

Akendra,

Your regisry edits fixed the problem, you are on my list of superheros now.
For all others to see I included them below,

Matthew

---------------------------------------------------------------------
*My Documents fix*

Drill down to the key:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings\Zones\0]
Create a new DWORD "1806" with a value of 0

*Zipped files fix*

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings\Zones\1]
Create a new DWORD "1806" with a value of 0

Glad to hear it worked for you and thanks for the update!

I have a small update for the registry fixes....

Zone 0 is 'My Computer' and Zone 1 is 'Local Intranet'

So to fix BOTH zipped files and the my documents folder for 'my
computer' you just need to do the first regedit:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings\Zones\0]
Create a new DWORD "1806" with a value of 0

If you are going to be working with zipped files on network drives, you
will need the 2nd regedit (unless you plan on copying all zipped files
to the local PC before working with them)

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings\Zones\1]
Create a new DWORD "1806" with a value of 0
