Hi,

Ok my D drive on my computer has been removed, I dont know what happened,
its in the computer but gone, what can I do? I checked some log files and it
says it was removed, its not showing up in BIOS, any idea? Thanks for your
help:)

sometimes the cables get loose. check the connectors against your hd and
those on your motherboard...... make sure your hd is screwed in snug too.
your powersupply should be ok since everything else is running....

everything is connected right as far as I can tell. I do play alot of EQ2 and
sometimes my screen would turn all funny colors and I could not see anything,
I thought it was my Video card so I would just reset the computer and shut it
down for an hour or two, then I would play again and everything would be
fine. It did it right before the D drive disapeared. I looked on the log
files and it said there that the D drive was removed. Now I dont know what to
do. It looks like when I reset my cpu the drive was removed for some reason,
anyone have any other idea? Thanks for your reply to this post databaseben:)

unfortunately, it sounds to be specifically a hard ware problem and not
software. and it sounds exactly like the drive is not powered on. your
drive should have 2 cables going in and out of it. 1 is a flat ribbon cable
that plugs to the motherboard. the other is from the power supply, a
connector with several colored wires. your powersupply should have a couple
of extra ones available. you should switch out the one connected to the
drive. also, you have to be sure that the flat ribbon connector is properly
connected to the drive. the connector can wiggle loose and appear connected
but may actually be connected half way or ajar. the connector could have been
forced on and plugged in backwards. the connector could have been forced on
and broken or bent one of the tiny pins. if your c drive and d drive are
plugged with the same ribbon cable, then temporarily swicth the connectors.
this will provide a test to see if your bios recognizes your drives. the
test can be viewed in your bios/cmos setup.... if your bios again doesn't
recognize your d drive but still see's the c drive, then it appears your d
drive simply went bad......physically uninstall the d drive and look closely
at the pins under some good lighting. if none are bent or broken and the
ribbon cable was properly connected, then this isn't a windows or a
motherboard/cmos problem.....

First, find out why the BIOS does not recognize the device. Don't bother
with XP until after the BIOS sees the drive.

You have a hardware problem which could be bad cables, bad drive, or
defective controller. Or it could be a combination of these problems.

Hi harleysftl13,

No one asks so I will, "What is your Drive D?"

If a CD, CD-RW or DVD Drive, go into Device Manager and do a Hardware
Scan. After your Drive is restored, use a CD Cleaner on it and clean it.
Windows XP, will remove a Drive like these, if a lot of errors occur. Also
clean your CD Disk in question with a cleaner.
