My cursor jumps ! Help!!

Does anyone know why my cursor would jump from the line I'm typing on to
either a few words before or even a few lines above? It happens in more than
one program, and I've already tried to check for a new driver for the
keyboard; I've already tried to uncheck the boxes in my keyboard/mouse area
of control panel. I can't seem to get the keys to behave. It's random.
I've slowed down the rates of speed. I'm a very fast typist, but I've also
gone SLOW to try and see if it's MY error and still have had it happen. Any
ideas?

You didn't mention whether you are on a laptop or desktop. If a laptop,
this is common with some brands, particularly Dells. Turn down the
touchpad sensitivity and/or disable the touchpad entirely while typing
and use an external mouse.

Another cause can be if you have Office speech recognition on and the
microphone on.

If you are using a desktop computer, try a different keyboard.

Not the OP, just someone with related experience:

Another thing I have noticed on some web pages. It acts like there is
on occasion it acts like there was a click even though my hands were
nowhere near the mouse. It's not a possessed rodent, either, as it
only happens on-line. It seems to be a symptom of some fancy text
editors on webpages.

Thanks for answering. It's my HP laptop. It crashed and then I had it
professionally "fixed" - cleaned and reinstalled the software. After that,
I've had this problem with my keypad. How can I turn down the sensitivity?
I've gone into Control Panel and mouse/keyboard and tried to fix it that way.
Any other ideas why it would be so "touchy" and jump/

This is why it's so important to include all information about your
machine and the circumstances surrounding the issue in your first post.
Had you told me that Windows had been reinstalled, my answer would have
been completely different. It sounds as though a clean install was done
without using the HP restore program and/or the correct drivers were
not installed.

Go to HP's tech support website for your specific model laptop. Download
the touchpad drivers and install them.
