My CPU usage is bouncing up and down

I'm new to this forum so if I do something stupid please be cool...

Here's my problem. I got a new computer 6 months ago and for me it's really
fast and the CPU usage never went above like 10%. Now for some reason I can
hear my computer working hard and when I open taskmanager the usage bounces
from 5% to 50%-100% every few seconds even if I'm not doing anything.

So far to remedy the problem I've defragmented my hard drive, ran Ad-aware,
and Norton Antivirus. None if this has helped. Any advice or ideas would
be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Derek

Go to the processes tab, click the CPU header once to get it sorted by
%cpu, and another to get it sorted descending, then look to see what
is taking the cpu the most.
