My Computer opening on Startup with Win XP

Michael

Just purchased a new computer with Window XP Professional
pre-installed on delivery. Everything appears to be
running normally except that on startup My Computer opens
to the Windows\System32 folder. It is easy enough to
close the folder, but it is apparent that something is not
functioning properly. I have also noticed that the Group
Policies sub folder is grayed out within the System32
folder. Could this be part of the problem, and if so what
is the best way to fix it? The computer is not part of a
group, and is not on any network. Any assistance would be
greatly appretiated.
