my computer keeps turning off

My pc keeps restarting itself. This happens when i have
left it idle and also when i am using it. I have checked
the power options in control panel and made all the
settings apply for a on all the time pc. I have checked
all the cables and they are ok. It does not power down it
just restarts and then i get no message when it reboots
telling me what has done it.
Please help as it keeps doing it when i am in the middle
of somthing and it is very annoying.
I am running xp pro, i have pccillin and have run it to
check for virus' and i have also run spybot, search and
destroy. Both came up clean, i also have pccillin
firewall.

Hi Thomas,

WinXP, by default, autorestarts on a system failure. There are two ways you
can approach this:

1) Start/run eventvwr.msc and check through the system and application logs
for clues.

2) Disable the autorestart, then research the stop error (blue screen) that
is produced the next time the system faults. To disable it, go to the
control panel/system/advanced tab/startup and recovery settings. Uncheck the
line to autorestart.

Hi,
I have looked in the evnts log and there are two recuring
errors. The first one: source ipnathlp, the network
address (NAT) was unable to request an operation of the
kernal-mode translation module. This may indicate
misconfiguration, insuficient resources, or an internal
error. the second one is a system error.the description
is: error code 1000008e, parameter1 c0000005, paremeter2
f8809a51, parameter3 f23e5658, parameter4 00000000. I
have tried usre the link on eachbut they both have no
answer and advise me to use the forums.
If you need any more info please ask.

I am experiencing a similiar problem and I have noticed the same error
messages in the log.
My problem is slightly different in that my computer locks up after going to
sleep for awhile. I come back and just have the desktop background picture,
the mouse works but nothing else. no ctrl-alt-del. have to hard boot.
