You should review whether it is up to date with patches from Windows
Update, and has effective antivirus and antispyware software running.

Ideas:

1 - Start in Safe Mode and take a look on Events (Control Panel ->
Admin Tools -> Events Viewer)

2 - Try to run a spyware remover and an antivirus

3 - Unplug the PC from Internet and look to the programs that are
running (Ctrl+Alt+Del). Maybe one of these processes could be a malware
and has to be removed from the Start-up, from the registry
(Start->Run->Regedit and
HKLM->Software->Microsoft->Windows->CurrentVersion->Run and remove th
undesired applications) and deleted from the disk.

Good luck

What are your anti-virus and anti-virus arrangements?

How much RAM memory?Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task
Manager and click the Performance Tab. What is the Total,
the Commit Charge and the Peak?

What is your CPU processor speed? Right click on your My
Computer icon on your Desktop and delect Properties to get
this information and the amount of RAM memory.

How large is your hard disk and how much free disk space? In
Windows Explorer right click on your C drive and select
Properties.

Hope this helps.

Look in the event viewer found in administrative tools in your control panel.
When you open it you will have at least three logs displayed in the tree view
on the left. The one you will probably want to look at first is the "System"
log. Double click to open it. Now if you noted the time of your lockup you
should see a corresponding red X in the right panel. Double click that to
open a details window. Now most of this will look like giberish to you, but
will at least give you a program name or module somewhere in there that will
give you a clue as to what program to look at. You may have to look at the
"Application" log as well. Lockups are generally a result of an outdated or
corrupt driver so the event viewer will help you to isolate the
program\module and then get that programs updates. This can also be the
symptom of a virus, spyware\malware\adware, or a failing HDD. But take a look
at the event viewer first. Then post back with some details or with more info
that will give us an idea where to look. There are all sorts of memory
testers and HDD manufacturers usually have a testing tool for free on their
sites. Let us know how you make out. TTFN.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, and
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&sd=tech

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click for further information. You can copy using copy and paste.
Often the link will, however, say there is no further information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now
start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This
will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links
into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

Hope this helps.

I did not see x's but I saw something in yellow. Here are some samples.
Your computer was not able to renew its address from the network (from the
DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 000C416B1058. The
following error occurred:
The operation was canceled by the user. . Your computer will continue to try
and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.
A network error occurred when trying to send a message. The error code is: A
blocking operation was interrupted by a call to WSACancelBlockingCall
The CRM log file was originally created on a computer with a different name.
It has been updated with the name of the current computer. If this warning
appears when the computer name has been changed then no further action is
required. BENISCOOL

That is the type of information that is helpful but you are only providing
parts of
each message. Try the copy technique suggested.

You say it is a Compaq Presario. What model? Is it a laptop
or a Desktop computer?

How are you connecting to the internet? Is it through a modem
or a router?

Is the computer standalone or part of a network of computers?

What is the make and model of your network card?

What is the make and model of your Router ( or modem )?

Find out more about what you have.

This freeware programme is excellent for getting information
about your computer:

Tip: To copy select Report, Quick Report, Plain Text, highlight
required text, right click and select copy. However, whilst this
is fine for posting small amounts of information into newsgroup
messages longer reports will irritate other newsgroup
subscribers.

The reference to a CRM log highlights a use to which the
computer has previously been put. Please study the content of
the following link and advise whether you were adware of and
are using this software.

What is the make and model of your network card? Is this in the info I
attached?

What is the make and model of your Router ( or modem )? Is this in the
