My daughter is using and OEM of MS xp. She had renamed her "My Computer"
icon and then unknown how or when, somehow deleted the renamed "My Computer"
icon altogether. I tried a search of her HD and nowhere is it to be found
using either "My Computer" or its renamed icon. No restore point was made
so that option is out of the question. Anyone have an idea (or fix) on how
I can restore her "My Computer"? Thanks in advance to all who respond.

You can use Tweak-UI for Windows XP. There is a category
Desktop, that allows you to View or Hide the My Computer
icon. Just download/Install/Run - Expand the Desktop category
Uncheck the "My Computer" and apply, then immediately
recheck "My Computer" and apply and it should re-appear,
irregardless of how it was named.

Alternatively right click the Desktop and select Properties to bring up the
Display Properties.
Select the Desktop tab and then the Customize Desktop button.
Is My Computer checked in the Desktop Icons boxes?
If not then check it.
If it IS checked then uncheck it, click OK etc and close the Display
Properties.
Now repeat the procedure again checking the My Computer box.
Hopefully XP will restore the icon.

R. McCarty,

Thanks for responding. Sorry to say it did not work. I think she may have
deleted everything related to "My Computer" and it will need to be
reinstalled if it is at all possible.

Martin,

Thanks for responding. I did as you suggested however the "My Computer" is
grayed out. I think my daughter truly deleted everything regarding "My
Computer" whereas it will need to be reinstalled if at all possible.

Thanks again.

Just one other thought. - Are you using the Quicklaunch bar ?

Toggling that on will also enable the normal Desktop icons for
My Computer, Network Places, etc..
You can access that by Right Clicking Start and enabling the
Quicklaunch from the Taskbar settings.

R. McCarty,

Thanks again for your help. Your suggestions led me to a investigate a
program my daughter downloaded, Fresh UI which has xp power tool like
options. Sure enough she had the program hide the "My Computer" icon from
the desktop. All is back to normal again.
