My Computer icon missing

I just installed Windows XP Pro on a new computer. The My Computer icon and
the My Network Places icons are missing from the Desk Top. Does anyone know
why or how I can restore them?

Thanks

Hi -

Right click in an open space on the desktop and click on properties. When
the Display Properties window comes up, click on the Desktop tab and click
on the "Customize Desktop" button. In the next window on the General tab,
select the icons you want and click Ok.

Hope this helps.

You've posted in someone else's thread. What's more, the original
poster's question has been answered so as far as most people are
concerned the thread is closed.

Make a new post and include all pertinent details and someone will help
you. The best way to use this tech support resource is with a
newsreader. It is very easy to set up. Here is information about that
and also how to post, etc.

This way you'll get the help you need.

Since you are using the web interface, you may not realize that this is
really a newsgroup. You will get far more out of this resource if you
learn to use a newsreader. There are many good newsreaders for Windows,
but you can use Outlook Express since you already have it. Here are
some links to information about newsgroups:

Start > right click My Computer > choose show on desktop.
ditto for My network Places

I downloaded some pics from my memory stick into my pictures and rotated one
using MS picture and Fax viewer. Transfer was from a card reader to the USB
port (I have been doing this the same way for years w/o problems)

1> My camera's picture card was wiped clean
2> Four new disks were added to My Computer
3> I restarted the computer and the 4 new disks disappeared
4> My Computer Icon name was changed to 23$ER%T^&(I)_Puyjko[;p]-[0=p]'bmnm
I can not rename it my computer. Anyone have any ideas?
