My computer has gone haywire!

lately my computer has had problems, sometimes when i close programs most
commonly media programs like iTunes or Windows Media Player my monitor will
be completely covered in a random color, it is usually a bright color such as
yellow or blue or pink but on occasion it will be a dull sort of lavender i
can no longer see my mouse when this occurs, but i am pretty sure that it is
still moving around windows dispite the fact i can no longer see my desktop.
My original solution to this problem was to restart my computer (an XPS 600)
and the problem would go away for a while, but recently i discovered that if
i wait my screensaver will come on and when i move my mouse to make the
screensaver go away i will be able to see my desktop again. will someone
please help me
 
It could be the driver for your graphics card I would reinstall it
or it could be directX try getting an update

how might i go about re-installing the driver for my graphics card
