My Computer folder list has wrong SORT

When I used to open up My Computer, the hard drive partitions were always in
alphabetical order. If I opened up one of the partition folders, the
folders inside were also in alphabetical order. But something (me???) has
changed this, and now they the partitions and the partition folders are in
some unknown order. When I try to correct this using VIEW/ARRANGE ICONS/BY
NAME, the folders end up in reverse alphabetical order.

There must be a default setting somewhere that I can change. Do anyone know
how to do this?

Click on "Name" (heading of the column) until you see a
triangle pointing up.

I know how to sort the columns, but my point is that no matter how I sort
them the sort always reverts to this unknown order. And it didn't use to be
like this, so something, some setting, has changed somewhere. And I'd like
to find outwhat that is.

Try this:
In the Windows Explorer, Sort the list on Name.
Click Tools/Folder options
Under the View tab/Folder Views/ click "Like Current Folder".
Click OK to accept the change, close and reopen the Windows Explorer.
This should work.

Thanks for that suggestion. I tried it and it worked for Windows Explorer,
which I never used. But when I opened My Computer, I had the same out of
sort problem. So I tried the same solution for My Computer, and so far it
seems to be working. I want the solution to work in all programs, such as
when I Open File in Word, or Excel. Open File always used to give an
alphabetized list of files, and it would default to the sort order I had
previously used. I'll be very happy if I can just get back to that
arrangement, rather than the random sort that I've been getting. Thanks
again.

As I know, it works under the Windows Explorer (the File manager -
WinKey+E) permanently till reset.

Under Explorer (the little box during Open/Save), I have heard of a
work around (may not work under all programs, but seems to under Office
if done individually for each app: Word, Excel etc.,): During a
File/Open, Sort the way you prefer, and Hit Cancel, with the Ctrl Key
pressed. Windows seems to remember the choice subsequently!

BTW, a My Computer Window and Windows Explorer are basically the same.
You can toggle the view through the Folders Button on the toolbar.
