My Computer Applet can't find drives

I have a new windows XP Pro box that is causing some
problems. When I click on the MY COMPUTER icon the applet
opens but the drives are not immediately there. The mouse
pointer is a hour glass that turns while XP searches for
the drives. At times the drives are there right away with
no waiting and times the system stops responding altogether.
Any ideas.

I found this in a message on this site because I was
having the same problem. I cannot re-find the original
message. Here's what it said:

Go to Start, Run, the type in MSCONFIG. Click on the
services tab. Find the box labeled Microsoft Image
Acquisitions. Uncheck the box and reboot.

This worked for me.
