-- When I put a CD in a drive, all it does is make a small buzzing noise and
then does nothing. When I go to the Device Manager, it is shown as it is
installed, but it has a yellow exclamation mark next to both of them, and the
status says "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The
driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

I have tried to uninstall and reinstall but it does not help, have tried the
trouble shooter and that does not help as well.

Also, I have looked at other threads and some said that if you "unplug the
driver" it will work, if so, how might you do that?

Thanks
Alcohol, the cause, and solution, to all our problems.

Hi Rhett Johnson,

See if the information in this MSKB article helps you to resolve the problem:

CD-ROM access is missing and messages cite error code 31, code 32, code 19,
code 39, or code 41 after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=314060
(please note that although the article references Easy CD Creator, there are
other third-party software packages that will cause the same "problem" to
occur).

If you don't want to manually edit the registry, you can d/load and run the
registry patch that is available here:
http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.php#problems
(look at the second "problem")

Regards,
Could also be due to the anti-copy malware "Starforce" as included on
some games titles. If you play games, have a look here:
