i cant seem to get my CD-R working properly. its a smart
and friendly drive (4012). the problem arose when i
installed roxio easy CD creator 5.0. i have since
uninstalled that program but cant get it to work still. it
appears in the device manager but not in my computer. i
have tried loading a new driver for it and even completely
removing it from the device manager and starting over (i've
also tried to uninstall and reinstall my SCSI controller)
but nothing seems to work. i have also tried to hook up
other CD-ROM drives through the spae IDE port but those do
exactly the same thing (and i have tried all of the
hardware in another comp so i know it works). PLEASE HELP!!!!

First, if you're going to use EasyCD, you need to go to www.roxio.com
and download the patch for it to work with XP.

Next: What kind of SCSI adaptor are you using? If it's a cheap
adaptor like the old zip zoom card or an AHA 1505, it may not work
because of an IRQ conflict. The drive can only be "seen" by XP if
the host adaptor is set up correctly.

However, if the drive appears OK in Device Manager, that means that XP
"sees" it. Have you assigned the drive a letter? Check in disk
management. Unless it has a valid drive letter, it won't show up in
"My Computer" or the Windows Explorer.
