My background picture is getting distorted when i try to centre it

I want to use one of my personal picture as my desktop background and so used
the option 'Set as Desktop Background'. But when I did that the picture
appears to be streched all over the screen and the faces appear streched. So
i centered the picture which shows me only a part of the picture streched all
over the desktop. I tried the tile option as well and it is the same. Please
help me in having a decent looking desktop.

"Center" should not be stretching your picture. If you're seeing only
part of your picture in "Center" mode, it's because the picture is
bigger than the screen. You'll need some kind of graphics program to
resize the picture to the size you need. Try Irfanview
(www.irfanview.com) which is free, it should do what you need.
