mwme0001 Internal Modem Error

I have a thinkpad 600 that I have win2000 on. After
installing AOL 8.0 or 9.0 I get Message "MWME0001:Internal
Modem error. I found Microsoft Knowledge Base article
811017 that describes the problem exactly. After
following the instructions to alter the registry I still
have the same exact problem. Does anybody have any
ideas? I would appreciate any ideas..............

Bill, did you get around this problem? I have the same problem with my thinkpad and was hoping you had better luck than i did. If you have fixed this, please let me know how you got around it. Thanks

Bill, have you got Groupwise on your machine?? If you do, then the gwtps1.dll file may be corrupting the startup process. Go to knowledge base and look up the reference 319161. Follow the registry details.
