Computer freeze during modem dail up

Have a small problem. I have a computer that I installed a new modem into. The computer has Win2000 and has had no problems up to this point. The modem installed just fine and W2k picked up the drivers. Device manager showed the new modem enabled with no problems on com 3. When I went to dail up my internet provider, the computer froze. After rebooting, I query the modem in the control panel under modems. Same thing happen. Computer froze. Any ideas

Thanks for your help

Assuming that the hardware is ok, I would try updated modem drivers and
maybe even a BIOS update.

Thank you for the response. The drivers that came with the modem where W2K drivers, but I will check the website for updated drivers. The BIOS I have not looked at. There may be something there that I may need to turn on or off. You have me thinking anyway:)

Take care
