Modem crashes windows

Hi,
I have an IBM thinkpad x31 w2k laptop. When I try to use the modem (agere
systems AC97 modem) to login to any ISP, windows crashes as soon as the
connection is established. I see the blue death screen and some memory dump.
I have saved the dump in a file but can't open it.
I have updated the drivers and bios bu still I have this problem.
Any idea what is going on or what should I do?
Thanks

Is this an internal modem (more than likely is, but if its older, might have
pc card modem)? Try an external modem, or a pc card modem and see if the
hardware is causing this bsod.
