Must precede url with http://

If I type www.website.com in the address bar, it takes
about 3 minutes before it opens the requested page. If I
precede the www with http:// - then it finds the page
immediately. Or if I type in website and hit CRTL -
Enter to precede website with http://www. and ending
with .com, then it finds it immediately as well.

I must also add the if I try and browse My Computer, it
just displays the moving flashlight - then after about 5
minutes, it finally opens up My Computer.

Any help?
