Mup.sys Hangs

I installed a second cd-rom drive and win2k pro operating
system hung at mup.sys. Would not boot, even in safe
mode, lost keyboard, mouse, everything. No recommended fix
worked. Had to install second copy of OS to keep from
losing data.

Am afraid of adding more hardware to any other machines
because of this problem. Help appreciated.
