Multiple TOC in dissertation (Minitoc per chapter)

Dear community,

how do I create a minitoc per chapter in word 2007?

I would like to have the whole TOC at the beginning of the document and then
per chapter all headings that are contained in this chapter. In LaTeX exists
the command \minitoc for that.

Also, I would like to use automatic numbering for the Headings, but exclude
the appendicies from it. Is this only possible with manual deleting?

many thanks for the links.

If I understand this correctly, I will need to type everything first and
then I will need to do the bookmarks at the end. I tried to create Mini-TOC
in a test document, but if I want to include another Heading, it doesn't
appear than.

Also, regarding the numbering, I am not sure, if my question is completely
answered. Can I have more than one Multilevel-list in one document by using
"Heading 1" for Appendicies? Or do I need to modify, for instance, Heading 9
for Appendicies in the way that it looks like Heading 1?

The idea is to have one mini TOC per chapter (including for the appendicies).

Yes, you'll need to have an entire chapter typed before you insert the
bookmark, and if you add to the chapter (at the end), you'll need to
reinsert the bookmark (you can use the same one, just reapply it).

As for the appendix numbering, I thought you said you wanted the appendix
headings unnumbered, and if that's in fact true, then on reflection there's
no reason you need to make the headings part of the numbered list at all,
but, if you did, you would need to use a lower level (Heading 6, say) and
just omit the numbering. Whether you make the heading part of the list or
not, you can use a different built-in heading style or a user-defined one,
in either case formatted to look the same as Heading 1 (but don't base the
style on Heading 1 or it will be difficult to remove the numbering without
messing up the Heading 1 numbering).

To recap: If you don't want the appendices numbered, then just create a
style called Appendix Head. Make it look like Heading 1 but not based on
Heading 1. In the Paragraph dialog, set the outline level to Level 1 instead
of Body Text, and it will be included in the TOC at the same level as
Heading 1.

If you do want the appendices numbered (even with A, B, C numbering), then
follow the instructions in Shauna's article for using a lower numbering
level; in your TOC, however, set the outline level of the style to 1 to
match Heading 1.
