i am trying to set up networking in 2 offices and do not
want to change my tcp/ip settings each time. i tried to
find the alternate configuration setting but i don't have
this option. how can i do this?

Click Start/Control Panel/Network and Internet Connections/Network
Connections. Right click the Local Area Connection for your network adapter
and select Properties. Highlight TCP/IP and click the Properties button.
You should have a tab called Alternate Configuration?

the "alternate" tab only appears under the Local area
connection properties when you have the NIC set
to "obtain an IP address automatically" (DHCP) If your
machine can then not find a dhcp server, it uses the
alternate static configuration.

If you have the TCP/IP properties set to a static
address, then the alternate tab does not appear as you
can't have two static addresses set on one card.

If you want to use your machine on 2 different networks
with different addresses on each, you can either:
1 change the settings each time you move
2 Install a second network adaptor, give a different
address to each and disable the unused one when you move
location
3 Use a 3rd party program like Netswitcher, to hold two
different network set ups. You can't do it in windows
alone.
