Multiple rundll32.exe-task manager

D

David R

I'm using Charter Pipeline so I'm online all the time
(until XP Pro hangs, @$#%!&*). The longer I'm up the
more appearances I get of rundll32.exe in the task
manager. I can 'end process' them all and it doesn't
seem to change anything . I understand
multiple 'svchost' appearances. Is rundll32 something
similar? Any way I can stop it? Should I?

Sounds as if you have a virus and/or spyware.

http://www.lavasoft.de for freeware adaware program to
download/install/Check for Updates/Run to rid your system of spyware. You
have to keep updating and running this program occasionally.

Do a google search for Spyware Blaster which is a freeware program designed
to prevent spyware from entering your system before the fact.
Download/install/check for updates/tell it to protect your system. You have
to keep updating and running this program occasionally.

http://www.panicware.com for a freeware pop-up stopper. Download and
install/tell it to start with windows.

http://www.grisoft.com for a freeware anti-virus program. Download,
install, configure, updates the signatures and scan. You have to keep
updating and running this program occasionally.

Do a google search for Disable Messenger and go to a site that will tell you
how to do this....that is, if you are not on a corporate network. Disabling
Windows Messenger will prevent many pop-ups. Windows Messenger is not to be
confused with MSN Messenger.

http://www.zonelabs.com for the freeware version of a software firewall.
Download/install/configure and let it protect your system from unwanted
internet intrusions.

Don't let any of the sites above trick you or sucker you into buying the
"Pro" versions unless you want them. The freeware versions are more than
adequate. You may have to look around for the freeware links. They try to
hide the freeware link so that you'll buy the pro version. :)

Good luck!
