Multiple instances of iexplorer.exe

L

Lakota

My computer has taken to doing something weird lately:

I will open up Internet Explorer and browse the internet
normally. I might open up multiple windows, but never more
than 4 or so. Then, after a little while, I can't open any
more windows or save pictures or click on links, etc. It's
like my computer is frozen up.

I'll close the Internet Explorer windows but my computer
still won't let me open new windows or programs. I'll hit
ctrl-alt-delete and go to the task manager, and in the
task manager it'll list multiple instances of
iexplorer.exe. Sometimes there are as many as 10. They are
all taking 25k-60k of memory. They are still in my task
manager even when there are NO open Internet Explorer
windows on my computer (that I can access.)

I asked this once before and someone said it was spyware.
However, I ran BOTH AdAware and SpyBot and they came up
with nothing. I also ran Norton AntiVirus and came up with
nothing. What can I do?

Hi,

This problem looks like a dll files corruption. I would recommend the
following steps.

1. Check if you are running latest version on Internet explorer. You can
download internet explorer 6 SP1 from Microsoft site.
2. Check if you have applied Windows XP SP1.
3. Check if your operating system is updated with all the latest updates.
Go to www.windowsupdate.com click on scan for updates and
install all critical updates.

This should solve your issue. If you are still having problem reply back.
