Multiple iexplore.exe

R

Ritch

I have several instances of iexplore.exe running yet I am not running
Internet Explorer.

I have scanned with Norton Antivirus, Spybot, Spy Sweeper and Ad-Aware. They
come up clear.

Everthing I have is the latest release.

I get a pop up advert from a mortgage company when I open Internet Exporer.

I am convinced there is a bug on my PC !!

Can anyone shed any light.

Ritch,

Download the latest version of AdAwareSE (v.1.05):
http://www.lavasoft.nu/support/download/

Install it. It should uninstall the previous version correctly, but
uninstalling it from Add/Remove Programs and then installing the
newer version is more reliable. Then check for an update for it's
definition files. Do the same for NAV, Spybot and SpySweeper.

Download CWShredder :
http://www.aumha.org/downloads/cwshredder.zip

Enable hidden files and folders
http://forum.aumha.org/viewtopic.php?t=6213

Reconfigure AdAwareSE for a Full Scan
http://forum.aumha.org/viewtopic.php?t=7933

Boot to Safe Mode, delete the contents of
Documents and Settings\<Your User Name>\Local Settings\Temp .
Delete all files in Documents and Settings\<Your User Name>\Local
Settings\Temporary Internet Files.
Do the above for ALL Users of the system.

Run these in this order :
NAV
CWShredder
AdAware
Spybot
SpySweeper
Allow them to remove what they find.

Thanks for your advice.

I have completed the actions as advised twice but still the offending pop up
is there. It also leaves a toolbar on my Internet Explorer (metallic silver
one).

If I investigate the toolbar it is LOP.COM. This was supposedly deleted
during my clean-up exercise. Apparently not.

Do you have any further advice?

Thanks,

Ritch

Some items are very hard to remove. Run HijackThis and post the log to
one of the specialty forums, _NOT_ this one. That is often the only way
to ferret out the tough ones.
