Multiple icons in tray

G

Guest

Wasn't sure if this was the right spot to put this but...I like the software,
it catches problems that SpyBot doesn't. But, I am, all of a sudden, getting
multiple icons in the system tray. It seems the only way I can leave the
program running is to allow 2 icons to be running. If I try to shut one down
the whole program quits. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no
avail. Any help out there?
Many thanks!

A) You can repair Windows AntiSpyware using Add or Remove Programs in Control
Panel. Click Microsoft AntiSpyware and click Change. Click Next, and then
click Updªte.

B) Use the Repair Function in the ADD / REMOVE PROGRAM section in the
Control Panel.

Then, try these steps:

1) Open up a command prompt (start -> run -> type in -> command)
2) Type in the following "regsvr32 msvbvm60.dll" (without the quºtes).
3) Close and re-open Windows Defender.

You can go ahead and do both of these--neither has any downside risk--and
see if that does the jºb.

goofy bug.

One concommittant may be a fingerprint reader, or a host VNC session active,
or installation on a tablet PC.

Let us know whether it does, or nºt!

Just ignore it. The problem may go away of its own accord, or whenever
the next version of AntiSpyware is released.

I want to thank you both very much and did try both your suggestions, Engel.
Guess what? hehehe I have currently been trying a program called Priority
Master 2005. It's a good program but when I killed it I stopped having
multiple MS AntiSpyWare icons. Hmmm. Now I have to flip a coin to decide how
I want to handle this!!
Again, many thanks!

Good troubleshooting--that's a new name to associate with this issue that I
hadn't heard before--what does it do, and where does it come from?

I would expect such issues not to continue when beta2 is available, but
please do test this--because if there are such conflicts, we'll need to get
them out in the open asap.

What Priority Master 2005 does is automatically assign a high priority to
whatever program is on top. You can also assign certain programs to always
run at a lower process priority then what they want to run at i.e.,
anti-virus, etc. It seems like a good program and up until I started having
problems with MS AntiSpyWare I never had a problem with it. But system safety
is more important to me then another bell/whistle. I got the program here:
http://www.prioritymaster.com/
It can also do more then what I've stated. Thank you very much for your help.

If it doesn't effect the functionality of MSAS so what. I'm sure Beta 2
will address this problem. After all it is only a cosmetic problem.

Hello Rogelio,

You can donload the critical updates, going to Control Panel, on the left
side is a line what said Windows Updates, click on the name and see what
happen.

I friendly remainder, never type your E-mail address in the open, other ways
you go to get a lot of span and more nasty staff. This is a open forum.

Is more easy to every body to read this posts if you use a translator.
Try this:

No, it doesn't affect the functionality at all. Ask yourself this...would you
like it if an icon started replicating itself, with no end in sight? I've had
as many as 6 MSA icons in my tray at once! So, I disabled Priority Master and
the prob went away!

Engel, Angel and others have pointed to solutions to the problem. Thanks to
these folks, my annoying, cosmetic problem with multiple instances of the
AntiSpyware icon in the system tray has been solved. The problem was
DigitalPersona Pro Workstation 3.1.0 software for a U.are.U 4000 Sensor
(fingerprint scanner). When the software was removed, the problem went away.
Scanner software reinstalled -- problem back.

Thanks - that's a known one. I've no information about whether this general
issue, or any specific instance of it is fixed in beta2, but it is well
known, and the hardware and software are in use in Redmond, so I would
expect it to be fixed.
