multiple domain problem

While I'm not the network person around here (well...not the 'responsible'
person, anyway. :) )...I'm trying to help to see if we can't resolve an issue
we're having.

*My* particular problems are:

1.) several *minute* wait time when I try to export data from Access to Excel,
and want to change from default/working directory.
2.) want to access my home folder on the server. (This
actually...eventually...fails, with "Local device name already in use. This
connection has not been restored." error msg.)

A co-worker here in IT voiced the same 'wait' problem. I'm able to ping both
domain controllers on each of the two domains by name.

We had "domain1" (NT4, pdc & bdc). We added "domain2" (w2k3) for our new
Exchange 2k3 server (replaced Lotus Notes initially, will eventually replace
'domain1'). The "switchover" was supposed to be fairly "quick". (We have some
250 or so users/PCs.) That was several months ago. (I made the move early, and
have had my problems ever since.)

I've searched this newsgroup back into 2003. I found some info regarding dcdiag
& netdiag from the support\tools directory on the install CD. I've installed it
on my XP (sp1) PC. Couldn't find dcdiag (only on the "server" install CD?). I
did find/install/run netdiag:

WINS server tests...failed. (We have two, and both failed.)

Trust relationships...failed.

Pinging the WINS servers...both reachable.

WINS service test. . . . . : Failed

DC discovery test. . . . . . . . . : Failed

Find DC in domain 'domain2':
[FATAL] Cannot find DC in domain 'domain2'. [ERROR_NO_SUCH_DOMAIN]

(note that I'm in & logged into domain2)

DC list test . . . . . . . . . . . : Failed
'domain2': Cannot find DC to get DC list from [test skipped].
List of DCs in Domain 'domain2':

Trust relationship test. . . . . . : Failed
Test to ensure DomainSid of domain 'domain2' is correct.
'domain2': Cannot find DC to get DC list from [test skipped].
[FATAL] Secure channel to domain 'domain2' is broken.
[ERROR_NO_LOGON_SERVERS]

Kerberos test. . . . . . . . . . . : Skipped
'domain2': Cannot find DC to get DC list from [test skipped].

LDAP test. . . . . . . . . . . . . : Failed
Cannot find DC to run LDAP tests on. The error occurred was: The specified
domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.

Find DC in domain 'domain2':
[WARNING] Cannot find DC in domain 'domain2'. [ERROR_NO_SUCH_DOMAIN]

Any chance someone might have some suggestions that I could take to our network
guy to help him out? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

we have many issues here.

1. assuming you have trust relationship, you may need to create the same username and password to share files between two domains. To save time, you may want to create a logon script to map the shared drives.

2. Since this is mixed OS, it is better to make the WINS to work.

3. Make sure you have correct DNS settings.
