is this possible and can someone direct me to a whitepaper or best practice?

i have an AD domain with 1 DC lets say its called domain1.com
exchange is also running on the only DC and handling mail for domain1.com
i want the same installation to also handle mail for a new domain,
domain2.com
can i do it? what AD changes will i have to make and how do i configure
exchange?

Yes, it can be done. You don't have to do anything in AD though, it should
be done in Exchange.
Which version are you using?

exchange 2000 or 2003, not sure yet.
but how could it be done without AD changes? wont the new mailboxes need AD
user accounts?
can you tell me how to do this?
thank you

If you set up the user in AD, you'll have the possibility to setup the
mailbox.

right. but the problem is this, listen....
an AD domain name domain1.com
each new user will be (e-mail address removed)
with the same email address.

i want to ADD domain2.com to the whole thing.

so i want to have exchange handle email for domain1.com AND domain2.com at
the same time.
how is this done? i will obviously somehow have to add a domain to AD AND
exchange. any ideas?

For Exchange 2000 have a look at the following articles:

289833 how to receive messages for two email domains with Exchange
268838 configuring exchange 2000 to receive mail from multiple domains.
