Multiple Desktops BUT with different desktop items

I am looking for a plug in to XP that will allow multiple desktop windows to
have different items (files, shortcuts, etc.) on the desk top. I have tried
Virtual Desktop Manager from MS but it puts all the same items on each
desktop & if you delete any icon/item from any desktop, it deletes it from
all the other desktops.

Does anybody have a recommended solution ?

why would you want to have more than one desktop? why don't you make a
folder and put all the shortcuts you want in them?

Good question - I omitted my motivation in my post.

I have a very busy desktop with lots of files, shortcuts, etc. that I am
constantly moving around - like a desktop But I have to do customer facing
presentations often that require Powerpoint & a few other applications that i
need to switch between. My busy desktop (that the customers can see) is very
distracting to them. I would prefer to keep my current desktop as is, but
have another desktop for presentations which has a clean background & only
those few applications on the screen.

Is there any other way to do this than having multiple desktops ?
