Can't delete Acive desktop item

G

Gordon

I wanted to put a URL shortcut on my desktop to do a test - I right-clicked
on the DT, selected "Paste Shortcut" and got a dialog box which said "Do you
want to add an active desktop item to your Desktop - yes/No". I hit "Yes"
because No didn't paste anything, I now have a small window on my DT which
contains the actual web page, and I can't find any way of getting rid of it!
(there's no "delete" option when right-clicking on it, and it's not in the
desktop folder in Documents and settings)

help!

Found it. (And I can't spell "active" either!)
Right-click on desktop, choose Properties, then desktop, then Customise
desktop, then web.
they didn't make THAT too obscure then, did they?

See if this helps.

Go to Control Panel and double click Display.
In Display Options, click on the Desktop tab.
At the bottom of the Desktop page, hit the Customize Desktop
button.
This should launch Desktop Items.
In Desktop Items, click on the Web tab.
On the Web page, click on the entry you want to remove from
your desktop and hit the Delete key.
Click OK twice.

Note: If you're using Internet Explorer, you can create a
shortcut to a web page on your desktop by doing the following;
Click on the File menu on the toolbar at the top of the window
and select Send -> Shortcut to Desktop.
Note: If you're using IE 7 you may have to hold down the Alt
key to view the menu bar.

Good luck
