Hopefully I can explain this correctly...
I have 2 versions of XP installed on a single machine.
One version is located in C:\Windows\ the other is
C:\Windows.0\

When the computer is restarted, I get 30 seconds to
decide which operating system I would like to use. I
choose the second one (windows.0) because the first one
(windows) is corrupted somehow but still loads and runs
fine to the best of my knowledge.

I am not a regular user of this computer, it is my
parents and i'm just home from college for thanksgiving
so I don't even know what they did when I was gone to
cause this problem.

So basically, my question is how to get the version of
windows that is not being used out or even just out of
the way so that when the computer is started it will load
right to the operating system that i want to use
(windows.0)
i get 30 seconds to choose and if i dont choose it goes
to the system that I don't want to load.
Please help!

Josh,

Right-click "My Computer"
Click Properties
Click the "Advanced" tab.

In the "Startup and Recovery" panel, click "Settings".
In the "Default Operating System" dropdown, change the default from the bad
one to the good one.
OK out, and reboot. It should now come up in the good system by default.

Now, go back to the same place and click the "Edit" button.
Delete the line corresponding to the "bad" system, and save the file.
OK out and reboot. It should now come up in the good system with no
waiting.

Now, you can delete the "bad" Windows directory.

You will probably also find "bad" folders under Documents and Settings.
If you are not sure which folders are bad, at least go down to Documents and
Settings\baduser\Local Settings and delete the "Temporary Internet Files"
folder. Windows will recreate this one if it needs to.

Happy Thanksgiving,

Myron
