I use the Desktops.exe utility from SysInternals, but have a few problems:
1. I have configured shortcut keys for various applications on the start
menu. But typing a shortcut always starts the application on desktop 1,
instead of the current desktop.

2. The Play/Pause button on my multimedia keyboard does not work when I am
on a desktop different then the one the player is running.

3. I want to be able to move a window from a running application to another
desktop, just like I do under linux.

Thank You for any help!

None of SysInternals are supported,if info on those utilities are what you
seek, then head over to TechNet user groups.TechNet has all thier downloads.

I really like AltDesk ($15 I think). And it addresses all of your problems
as well.

Thanks Andrew!
I thought that if anyone from Microsoft notices my post, some useful
features could be added, so I wrote it. :-)

Thanks for the link, Bill!
Aston Shell seem to have a bunch of shiny desktop and shell replacements.
The utilities are very light, performance is excellent.

One thing I didn't like about the AltDesk tool is that it is calling the
Hide() and Show() methods on the windows and that's not a good practice. A
minor plus to that is the option to recover hidden windows.

There are free alternatives that can do the same... Personally I wouldn't
use anything that just hides windows.

Hi George. Oh I didn't know that AltDesk uses the Hide() and Show() methods.
Might explain why the Play/Pause button on my multimedia keyboard does work
in any desktop. Yes I also like their desktop replacements as well. Both
Aston1 and Aston2 are very nice IMHO. As I use them all of the time.
