Multimedia info page - help!

S

Susan Bugher

I have tried to organize the Multimedia page into three major sections:

1) audio
2) audio-video
3) musicians tools

with subcategories for editors, recorders, players etc. etc.

and I find that my ignorance knows no bounds. . . :(

I could *really* use some help. . .

The subcategory list is here (if you want an overview):

http://www.pricelessware.org/2004/programs/P_CategoryIndex.php

The Multimedia page is here:

http://www.pricelessware.org/2004/programs/P_MULTIMEDIA.php

Advice please - what subcategories would be most useful? Which programs
belong in them?

TIA. :)

Thanks. Merging their subcategories (and omitting irrelevant ones) gives
me this list:

Audio editors
Audio Encoders & Decoders
Audio mixers
Audio organizers
Audio players
Audio recorders
CD Rippers & Converters
CD Players
ID3 tag editors
Jukeboxes
Audio utilities
Conversion applications
Conversion suites
Karaoke

Audio and video suites
DVD players
DVD Rippers
DVD Tools
Movie editors
Movie viewers
Video Tools
Misc. Movie Tools
DVD utilities
Personal video recorders (PVR)

Audio composers

The authors seldom seem to categorize their programs the same way those
sites do.

Can you tell me which of the 200+ programs I have listed go where - or
is there an easy way to plagiarize *that* information from the 2
shareware sites (the freeware site you listed is a bit lacking in
programs).

Not much help, but not everyone will be pleased no matter what you do. ;)

Best sites list them but 'categories' but also by name or general grouping
like 'Desktop' or 'Utilities'. I like the name idea as many times I'll
remember a program's name but not what category it neatly fits into.

Hello Andy,

The programs *are* listed by name - see this page:

http://www.pricelessware.org/2004/programs/P_ProgramIndex.php

There *are* pages for each general grouping (just like PL2004 pages).
It's the *subcategories* for the Multimedia page that are giving me fits.

ISTM I may not have explained my request clearly enough. Try two:

The Multimedia page needs a review by people who are more familiar with
Multimeadia apps than I am. Please go down the list of programs, pick
out the ones you know are in the wrong subcategory and tell me about it.
If I haven't listed the *right* subcategory - tell me that too.

You guys are the experts - help me out here . . .

It took me some time just to find the right page, because you mention 3
url:s in your message, and of course I tried the two wrong ones first.
I was confused by that.

The list Susan wants us to review is here:
http://www.pricelessware.org/2004/programs/P_MULTIMEDIA.php

Look at the columns 1 and 3. Is the subcategory in column 1 the right one
for the program in column 3?

There is a list of alternative subcategories here:
http://www.pricelessware.org/2004/programs/P_CategoryIndex.php
if you want to look for a better one for a certain program.

I have looked through the list and checked ones I know, and I couldn't find
any programs placed in the wrong subcategory.
But I only know maybe 20% of all the programs in that list

Hello Roger,

Thank you so much. That's a much better explanation - and I'm glad to
know I got *some* of the apps in the right place. :)

Heh! OK, I finally go to the right spot. Looks good to me, though I only
have heard of may 1/10th of them and use less than that. Music/Video I like
cataloging it and playing it and that's about it. ;)

Thanks Andy,

I appreciate your taking a second look. Lack of familiarity with the
apps is the problem I'm having too. My theory: close counts in
horseshoes, hand grenades and Multimedia subcategories. . . ;)
