Multibooting XP and 98: Cannot boot into 98

Hello

I have read a few posts about multibooting, including a few that were very informative about the way XP sets itself up to do this, but none that addressed my particular problem. Sorry if I overlooked the one that did..

I have set up XP to multiboot. XP is on the NTFS 'D:' partition, 98 is on the FAT32 'C:' partition (which is the system volume and so also contains the XP loader files)

Everything was going great until I booted to XP then used Diskeeper to defrag the 98 partition. Now when I try to boot to 98 I see the message 'invalid system disk'

I am guessing that 98 files that need to be in a specific location must have been moved by the defragger
io.sys, msdos.sys, and bootsect.dos are still there in the root directory of C
All the XP loader files are obviously still in place, since the multiboot works fine if you don't try to boot to 98

I want to restore my ability to boot to 98, but I'm paranoid about screwing up my ability to boot to XP

Any help will be appreciated

P.S. I will be back here, but replies to my email address are welcome too. Thanks.

Here is a safe recipe:

1. Boot your PC with a Win98 boot disk from www.bootdisk.com.
2. Run this command:
sys c:
3. Get a copy of bootpart.exe from
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/gvollant/bootpart.htm.
4. Run this command:
bootpart win95 c:\Win98.sys "Windows 98"
This will create a win98 boot sector file. It will also create a new
entry in boot.ini.
5. Run this command:
bootpart winnt boot:c:
This will restore your WinXP boot environment.

That's it! By the way, if you're paranoid about being unable to boot into
WinXP, create your self a WinXP boot disk first:
- Format a floppy disk under WinXP.
- Copy these hidden files to the floppy disk:
c:\boot.ini, c:\ntldr, c:\ntdetect.com
- Boot with this disk, and relax!
