multiboot with W98

After reading documents on the topic of multiboot with XP
Pro, I thought I did it correctly...BUT....

I wanted my pre-existing Win98 2nd ed install to remain
on the drive and placed a XP Pro install on a new
partition.

However what has happened - or appears to have happened -
is that the C drive (wn 98) IS BOOTING --BUT it then
immediately starts XP. XP is showing my win 98 drive as
the C drive and what was SUPPOSE to be the XP C drive is
now the "E:" drive.

I tried to edit the boot.ini in the c drive but that just
resulted in an error when I choose the 98 boot option

HOW do I get back my Win98 and have a multiboot for XP
too?

thanks
Harry

Well thanks for trying to help. However the essence of my
problem is: HOW do I get XP to GIVE ME BACK my win98 ?

I hope someone out there has an answer cuz MS KB doesnt
have anything I can see about undoing a hijacking of a
win98 partition.

Did more searching using other terms than just multiboot
and found a posting with this url
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_repair_9x.htm

I didnt follow all the directions - didnt have to.
I booted from my win98 startup diskette - then plopped in
my win98 install CD and ran setup - RE-installing to the c
drive but told it to use windows.000 folder instead.

After copying the files and the setup did its reboot
thing - I found myself with a WORKING multiboot menu!!!!

NOTE THIS: so that I didnt get my existing win 98 programs
all twisted up cuz of a reinstall - I manually removed all
the c:\ files that were place there for the reinstall
before ever booting back into win98

I did this by booting XP and then going to the C (win98)
drive and either removed files with the latest dates or
replaced then with the backups (*.--- or *.bak)

Anyway, c drive boots 98 and e drive boots XP.

Just wish I knew how to tell XP pro how NOT TO SEE or use
the win98's C drive.
