Multi hal sysprep images

Guest

Hello,

I have trying to creat a multi Hal sysprep image. I have created it on new
dual core system and I am using UpdateUPHAL
"hwid,%SystemDrive%\Sysprep\Hal\Hal.inf" in the sysprep.inf , but I have been
able to make a successfully working image, it works on other mp machines but
not single cpu models. I am thinking part of the problem is that I do not
have all the neccesary files needed for the Hals, can someone help me figure
out what I should have? Any suggestions, idea , previous experience greatly
appreciated.

Thank you,
Michael Radzik

Hello, thank you for the responce. hwid was a typo my part(just copied and
pasted). I have tried using acpiapic_up, and ACPI APCI_UP (according to MS),
each time I am ending up with an image that will not work on a single cpu
system.

The system I am using for the source image is a Dell Optiplex GX620 Dual
core, (it is acpi). As an extra step during during image creation I have used
an older ide HD as the system disk . I have an existing image which span our
entire family of machines from GX1 upto GX620, but it is a single cpu image.
Thank you for your responce.

Hello Michael,
Create the Image with on an APIC ACPI single processor system.
You can then deploy the image on a APIC ACPI multi processor system and
have the system detect and install the processors.
However the system still both have to be APIC ACPI.
If some of the system are PIC ACPI, you have to create an additional image
for PIC systems.

There unattended settings were available for Windows 2000 to go from a
single to a multi processor hal.
With Windows 2003 and Windows XP the OS should detect the additional
processor and make the change.

Hi Darrell,

Thanks for the reply. The issue was/is pic vs apic. My older images are pic
based and do work on newer apic hardware. Thanks again.
