Mult D'load Emails / New Mail No Show Inbox

Hi,

I posted a couple of days ago regarding two problems that I am having
occasionally with Outlook.

The first problem concerns duplicate emails being downloaded from the mail
server to Outlook if I close out of Outlook and then restart.

The second problem concerns new mail that is indicated in the Task Bar area,
but which doesn't show up in the Outlook Inbox. (If I switch to another
folder (i.e. Deleted Items) and then click to open the Inbox again, the new
messages are shown in the Inbox.

I am using POP3. The mail service I use is Earthlink.

This problem is not consistent. I can't isolate what it is that triggers it.

I did find something interesting yesterday that may help troubleshoot this
problem. Because Outlook was not showing new mail in the Inbox, I shut down
Outlook and restarted it. It appeared that Outlook was not responding when it
restarted, so I was forced to shut down the process. I then restarted
Outlook. When Outlook restarted, all of the mail that had not been removed
from the mail server was download to Outlook's Inbox again. After the
download of all of that mail, Outlook immediately moved all new mail to the
Inbox as soon as the notification icon appeared in the Task Bar.

Does anyone have similar experiences? Any idea how I can get rid of these
problems permanently?

Thanks

Jeff

Hi Diane,

Sorry for the lack of version information... I am running Outlook 2007.

And to answer your second question, I have not run scanpst.

Is it likely that scanpst will find error with the .pst file even though
Outlook performs without problems almost all of the time? Are there any
concerns about running scanpst?

Thanks for your quick reply.

Jeff
