shuttin down my computer once in a while for no reason

Well blah blah isn't the most technical term I've ever seen but as far as
the "ntdlr" error goes I do believe you've wasted a lot of time. Hey
everyone isn't that the Floppy Disk in drive during reboot error?

error?

Sometimes the nonbootable floppy in the drive is the cause of this error
message. Could also be the user installed more physical hard drives or
changed the number of partitions, especially primary partitions, on the
hard drives so now the physical descriptions in the boot.ini are no
longer valid.

I figured there was no point in responding to NiTs if the level of
explanation devolved into "blah blah blah protol". There's little point
in also trying to discuss multiple problems within under one post. It's
likely not all topics get touched upon and it isn't clear which problems
the poster really wants to address. You don't discuss why sandwich
doesn't have mustard when you toss it in a garbage can with a lot of
other problem sandwiches and ask about them, too. Focus is important.

"Every so many months" means the poster is asking a super vague and
generalized question rather than posting immediately after the problem
arises so specifics can be recounted so us volunteers might narrow down
the possibilities and focus on that particular instance.

100% agreement. Hence the sarcasm about the "Blah blah blah" in my original
reply. :)

when ntldr is missing you do not need to reformat your hard drive. boot your
pc from your xp-cd and hit "r" to start recovery console, then copy ntldr
from the cd to your "c" drive. if you need more instructions on using
recovery console there is plenty, if you search google
